I marshaled this race last year and thinking I would have the now cancelled Plymlimon  Challenge on the Saturday, I offered to marshal again on Sunday. While I would really like to run it, can't let Yiannis down.

Post race cakes are just super :-)

Enough slobbing .......

Just about 6 weeks since the Bob Graham and I ran for the 4th time today. I was slow, only did 3 miles, but there was no tiredness in the legs. I had a week in south Africa with work last week, so no running there and took a few days to recover from the flight.

So time to ramp up the miles, speed and fun again. I was thinking about doing the Black Mountain race, but I think I need to do some training before racing. The Plumlumon Chalange has been cancelled for 2011. I may just wait until the Langdale race the week after (BGR reunion weekend), but it is tempting to get a race in before that. Must resist.

2 weeks to the best Ultra of the year

You know you want to enter this race, 27 miles and 5500ft - ish, some rough ground, but don't let that worry you.

Missed it last year as it clashed with the Peris, so really looking forward to it. I ran it over the winter a few times.

I wonder if my short cut which involved going through a drain that goes under a road rather than going to the gate is allowed. Probably not in the spirit of the event.

If you are doing it, find the quad bike tracks that go off Drosgol and follow them, saves at least 10 minutes of fighting rough ground.

See you there?

Malvern Hills

I have passed about 5 miles or so south of the Malvern Hills many times in the last 14 years, but never took the time to visit them before last night. I wanted to answer the question "are my legs up to doing the full Peris Horseshoe" and it is a very good place to ask such questions. Lots of short hills, great running and stunning views in all directions. Did about 12 miles and got back just as it was getting dark, felt more like going for an explore and I just happened to be running than explicitly training. Legs were OK, but still heavy, so not recovered enough for the big time yet. I would end up having to flog myself and with a poor time. Always next year. Going to either do the half Peris or marshal dependent on need. Shame as the Peris Horseshoe is my favorite fell race of the year, but one of those things that had to slide this year to accommodate the Bob Graham and I am very happy out it.

Out and back along the Malvern Hills makes a cracking run, well worth trying.
